Dundee is an active and friendly city situated near the mouth of the River Tay in the county of Angus, on the East coast of Scotland. Dundee is Scotland's fourth largest city, it offers a fine quality of life with more hours of sunshine and cleaner air than any other city in Scotland.

The city also boasts a number of parks including Camperdown Park, Clatto Park and also the country parks outside Dundee to the East which include Monikie Country Park and Crombie Parks which offer a great day out. Gardeners will find interest in the University of Dundee Botanic Garden which is close to Dundee Airport.

Dundee is a city of learning has two universities, the Dundee University and Abertay University. There are also a number of colleges, and Medical Learning centres, including the Ninewells Teaching Hospital, and the Welcome Trust Medical Research Centre.

City Square, the heart of the city is a place worth visiting, it is overlooked by Caird Hall, with its impressive architectural design. Caird Hall is the venue for the University graduation ceremonies, for both universities. Caird Hall is also a major venue for concerts, plays and exhibitions in the city.

Dundee has become an increasingly popular destination, for Scottish day-trippers and international tourists. Life science research, education, the arts, business, computer games, manufacturing, communications and tourism are some of the city's current strengths.

Sea faring & industrial heritage

The "City of Discovery" has a fine sea faring tradition, it was once one of Britain's primary whaling ports. It has a rich industrial heritage and was once the centre of the world's jute trade. The city is currently developing digital technologies, scientific research and medical teaching as it moves towards the future.

Take a visit to Verdant Works, a textile heritage centre which was awarded Europe's Top Industrial Museum in 1999. Captain Scott's famous Antarctic expedition ship R.R.S. Discovery is docked adjacent to the Discovery Point Visitor Centre. Both of these attractions provide an interesting and informative day out for individuals and families, locals and tourists.

Getting to the City of Dundee

The quickest way to reach Dundee by car is past Perth and along the A9 to link up with A972 heading east.

Dundee Airport is the most convenient fly-in destination for some 1000 square miles of Central Scotland. Dundee Airport is situated only two miles from the City Centre, and less than 10 minutes by taxi from the main railway and bus stations. It is also quick and easy to access from Fife via the nearby Tay Road Bridge.
